Good morning and hello friends.
I don’t often write fiction. But last night I had a dream that left me with that creative itch. So here we go. Let those with ears hear and those with eyes perceive.
I see the scene clear in my mind. An older weathered man in a flannel shirt and jeans, seated on a bench along the wall. His dog Wiggles rests on his lap. Across the room, a long table full of men in expensive suits. They stare at a big screen showing news headlines for the year 2030. They are looking at the future. Their discussions include which movies should be released that year, which company stocks to buy, which stocks to short. The man on the bench is not looking at the screen. He is looking at his dog. He is looking at the floor. He is looking at nothing in particular.
I have been that man. Not in a boardroom, but in life. I spent decades thinking the suits had the answers. That the people with the titles and the screens and the plans knew something I did not. But the older I get, the more I realize the man on the bench has something they do not. He has peace. He has presence. He is not chasing tomorrow. He is sitting with what is.
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God” (ESV). The suits are running toward 2030. The man on the bench knows that Yahuah is already there. The dog knows it too. That is the real power in the room.
The world tells me I need to be in the boardroom. I need to have a plan for the next five years. I need to be ahead of the trends. But Scripture tells me something different. Matthew 6:34 says, “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (ESV). The man on the bench understands this. He is not ignoring tomorrow. He is trusting the One who holds tomorrow.
I think about the difference between the two groups in that room. The suits are trying to control the future. The man on the bench is resting in the One who already owns it. Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand” (ESV). All those stock picks and movie release dates are just noise. The only thing that stands is what Yahuah purposes.
