I would argue that EVERYTHING is both literal and physical. Most of us (including myself) can't (always) see or understand the spiritual happenings. But it's my understanding that the spiritual precedes the physical.
In my personal experience, when we ask God "what do you want me to see, say or get from this situation/feeling?" He reveals to us the spiritual side of what is happening.
