Generation X: Our Legacy?
Seeing it for what it is is so that we can do better
My Mighty Society
I am a consumer, just one member of a much larger society of consumers, almost 400 million members deep.
My society is so influential that we can speak a single word on the shores within our borders and have the ripples of that word wage wars on distant shores on opposite ends of the globe.
The Traditionalists Generation
Over the past few generations the composition of our society has transformed from the Traditionalists Generation (born 1922-1945) to a generation of extremely high time preference. Generation X (born 1965-1980), my generation.
A generation that would dilute a new bottle of dish detergent with some water so that instead of lasting only two weeks as intended for the average household, it would be stretched and made to last two months.
A generation whose DNA was engrafted with a desire to save for the future.
A generation that cared for and maintained the things that they had and bought with hard money earned and saved, so that they may pass these things onto future generations.
A generation that prayed long and hard before spending a single penny of their hard earned savings.
A generation that placed the needs of their neighbors and future generations ahead of their own. And as a result they were a fruitful generation and multiplied. Having an average of 3-4 children per family unit. They were so successful in this endeavor their off-spring would come to later be known as the Baby Boomer generation.
Fast forward a few decades just two generations later their product was Generation X.
Generation X
In comparison to the T generation, the X generation became acclimated to and adopting a very high time preference mind set.
Not only does my generation no longer have or value savings, but the money that we spend today in most cases will not be earned for years to come. In some cases (a mortgage) it will not be earned for many decades.
With my generation, having children is a sacrifice not worth making.
With my generation, we need government legislation passed in order to be kind to each other.
With my generation we opt for sexually immoral pastimes that degenerate our natural urge to unite and procreate in holy matrimony as God intended for us.
With my generation the expectation is that the things we buy today with the hard earned money (we will hopefully) earn in the future should only last us but a short while. We call it planned obsolescence.
With my generation we prefer to place the care of far off distant, digital (or on-screen) relationships ahead of those in our everyday lives or are near to us in real life.
With my generation, it's become normalized to pay for the right to use a thing that we have purchased on a monthly recurring schedule with no option to outright buy and own that thing, so as to be able to pass that thing onto the next generation or share with our family and friends. A practice which we euphemistically call a subscription or rent, but in reality, it's a never-ending payment with no path to ownership.
With my generation we’ve created new labels and terms such as:
Digital nomad, Queer, DEI & EOP to replace words and terms such as being neighborly, acceptance, respect and merit-based.
We created new words such as; misinformation, malinformation and disinformation to replace words like lies, fraud, fakery & propaganda.
I realize and acknowledge my role in these things I and my generation have brought upon future generations.
We weren’t all bad
While we have brought to society some of the most transformative technology that our grandparents could have only dreamed of, we engrafted the DNA of those technological innovations with corrupt incentives.
As a result, that great society of mine, almost 400 million people deep, is decaying at the very rapid rate facilitated of course by those very same technologies that we brought to life under the guise of the betterment of lives.
For these reasons and many more, I apologize. My entire generation apologizes.
God willing there is still time. How can I help undo some of this before my days come to an end?
Through my work, I aim to bring more unity to our country (and humanity) for those that are able to recognize it for what it’s intended to be and receive it.
This is a promise I made to God last night. I don’t yet know what part in the reparations effort I will play. But pray for me that I find my way and am able to deliver and I will do the same for you.
That is all and thank you for reading.
