#57 A Personal Interpretation
PSYCHOLOGY MEETS RELIGIOUS IDEAS (by John Brusseau)
This article is a personal interpretation of this wonderfully insightful piece written by John Brusseau. I encourage you to check it out in its entirety when you get a chance.
Imagine you have a big, colorful storybook. In this storybook, there are lots of characters like God, angels, and demons. These characters aren't just made-up; they represent different parts of how we think and feel inside our minds.
Think of your mind like a big playground. There's a part of the playground that's always working behind the scenes, helping you understand things. This part is like a wise, invisible friend who speaks in fun, pretend ways. It uses stories and pictures to help you understand big ideas.
In our storybook, God is like the biggest, most loving part of our minds. God represents love and how love helps us grow and stay strong, just like how love helps plants grow in a garden. Satan, on the other hand, is like the part of our minds that can make us feel proud or hurt. It's like when you feel bad because someone said something mean to you.
Angels are like the good ideas and feelings that pop into your head, making you want to do nice things. Demons are like the bad ideas that make you feel upset or want to do something you know isn't right. Both angels and demons are there to teach us about ourselves and help us grow.
The gods and goddesses in different stories are like different ways people around the world try to understand their feelings and thoughts. They show us how people in the past tried to make sense of the big questions, like "Who are we?" and "Why are we here?"
For example, think of God as Siva in one story. Siva is like a superhero who saves the world by swallowing a big, bad poison. This story helps us understand that sometimes we have to face our fears and bad feelings to protect what's good.
In another story, Cupid and Psyche are like two parts of your mind that don't always get along. Cupid is like your wishes and dreams, and Psyche is like your feelings and thoughts. Sometimes, they fight, and that's okay because it helps us learn how to make them work together.
The humans in these stories are like you and me, trying to figure out the world and ourselves. Boys in the stories often represent our wishes and dreams, while girls represent our thoughts about what's important.
So, all these characters in the storybook are like different parts of our minds, talking to us in a fun way to help us understand ourselves better. It's like having a secret language that only you and your wise, invisible friend understand. And the best part? God wants us to know all about these parts of our minds because it helps us understand the big, amazing world we live in!
