285 Set Apart: The Sacred Distinction of a Walker in the Way
What It Truly Means to Be Called “Saint” and “Holy” in a World of Currents
Good morning, and hello friends.
This morning, as the quiet settled following my prayers, a truth pressed on my spirit with fresh understanding: you are a saint. You are holy. These aren’t titles earned by spiritual achievement or declarations of man. They are declarations of a reality. You are a saint, hagios because you are set apart. You are holy for the exact same reason: you have been called out, separated, designated for a purpose that runs counter to the flow of everything around you. You are holy because you have wilfully submitted the vessel that is your body to the will of Yahuah. Your body, His temple, now belongs to Him to do with as he pleases. You want what He wants. That’s precisely the path that Yahusha, our Lord and King laid before us. It is not the mainstream path nor is it the path with the traffic jam. If the world is promoting your path, please, do a heart check, put eyes on the one guiding you on that path.
“You shall be holy to me, for I the LORD am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine.
(Leviticus 20:26, ESV)”
Holy: Qodesh, set apart.
Saints: Qodeshim, the set apart ones.
“But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, forever and ever.’
(Daniel 7:18, ESV)”
This isn’t about isolation for its own sake. It’s about orientation. As I wrote in “The Road Less Crowded,” this faith is a walk, not a label. To be set apart means your footsteps fall on a different path. “Enter by the narrow gate,” Yahusha said. “For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few” (Matthew 7:13-14, ESV). You are on that narrow, specific path because you follow the One who carved it Himself.
Drawing nearer to Yahuah. Spiritual growth. How does it happen? It happens in the small, quiet decisions you make every day. These decisions don’t drive social media followers and subscribers. These decisions are not seen there. They are seen by the one that created you. These small decisions to obey and walk the set apart path is what draws us closer to Him. It’s how we can love Him back. You are working out your salvation in your prayer closet where only you and He are present. The wilful conformity to the will of the Father, IS how we can show Him our love.
You are set apart because you do not move in accordance with the currents of the flesh and the world. Paul draws this line with stark clarity: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2, ESV). The world’s current flows toward self, toward instant gratification, toward the broad way of consensus. To be set apart is to swim upstream, powered by a different heart. It is to “walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16, ESV). This is the daily, moment-by-moment distinction. It’s choosing patience in traffic, kindness when offended, faithfulness in obscurity…the very fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) that marks you as belonging to a different Kingdom.
A saint is not declared by a person or group. A saint is declared by the path he or she walks. If that path is crowded or representative of the majority, you’re probably not on the narrow path. The narrow path is set apart for the set apart ones. The set apart path is not the convenient path. The set apart, narrow path is not being promoted by the world.
You are set apart because you believe in Yahuah and everything the scriptures say about Him. This belief is not a passive agreement with ideas; it is the active, trusting foundation of your entire reality. It is the “assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1, ESV). This belief reorients your compass away from the magnetic north of popular opinion and sets it on the fixed star of His eternal character.
And ultimately, you are set apart because you choose to walk in the spirit instead of the flesh as a result of the love you bear for your Creator. This is the engine. This is the “why” behind the “what.” It’s not out of grim obligation or fear of punishment. It is the loving response of a heart that has been captured. “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19, ESV). Your love for Him makes the world’ whispers fade and His whisper clear. It makes the hard choice the only choice, because any other path would feel like a betrayal of that love.
This is The Way. This is the path that walkers of The Way walk. It is a path of conscious, loving separation. It’s the journey I described in “The Unfamiliar Cold,” of leaving the comfortable and known because He has called you out. It is wrestling with the “how” in “The Known Destination, The Unseen Path,” even when the “where” is clear, because the walking itself, the daily setting apart…is the point.
So today, if you feel the strange tension of not quite fitting in, of feeling out of step with the rhythm of the world, take heart. It is not a flaw; it is the evidence. You are a saint. You are holy. You are set apart. Keep walking The Way.
