#19 Welcome to "Faith in the Fast Lane"
Understanding what it means to be a Christian in modern times
Proverbs 15:1-4 ESV
«A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly.
The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.»
Good morning, dear reader,
About a month ago, my intuitions made clear to me my new assignment in this spiritual season. As part of embarking on this journey, like a sailor about to set sail, I reached out to my community for suggestions on a new newsletter title, providing some broad guidance.
Through this process, the title "Faith in the Fast Lane" emerged, suggested by one of the survey participants and subscriber. If this you, thank you for participating and for the suggestion. The bells rung loudly on this one.
I prayed over it for a few days, seeking the consent of my Lord and Savior, and with His blessing, I decided to adopt this as the title for my new newsletter.
This title resonates deeply with me for several reasons. Firstly, it aligns perfectly with the mission and vision I feel called to pursue. The things the Lord leads us to often seem paradoxical or counterintuitive at first glance. Surprisingly, this title did not fall into that category; it felt immediately right and harmonious.
In a world that moves at an unprecedented pace, where technology and constant stimulation dominate our lives, maintaining and deepening our faith can seem like a daunting challenge. "Faith in the Fast Lane" is an exploration of how we can nurture our spiritual lives amidst the chaos and busyness of modern existence.
Through this newsletter, I aim to share insights, reflections, and practical wisdom on navigating the fast lane of life while keeping our faith at the center. We will delve into the philosophical and theological underpinnings of faith, examining how ancient spiritual practices can provide solace and guidance in our fast-paced world.
You'll note that this newsletter carries a biker and sailor undertone, as I am both. A former sailor in the United States Navy and a longtime biker, I have toured most of our country's back roads, from the east to the west, as far north as Alberta and Banff, and as far south as Panama in Central America, solo on two wheels.
Prior to my experience on October 3rd, 2024, these two journeys were the closest I've come to having spiritual episodes in my life. Being submerged in earth’s seas and oceans, sometimes only tens of feet other times by hundreds of feet below the surface of the sea for periods of two months or more, absent of sunrises and the stars of the night sky, offered an environment of isolation that facilitated frequent and deep reflections.
Similarly, spending weeks on back country roads, counting tens of thousands of miles solo over a decade of cross-country road trips, disconnected from the busyness of life on the coasts, provided a unique space for introspection and spiritual connection. These experiences have shaped my perspective and continue to influence my spiritual journey, as I navigate the fast lane of life with faith and purpose.
Join me on this journey as we seek to understand and strengthen our faith, finding moments of peace and reflection even in the most hectic of times. Together, we will explore what it means to live with faith in the fast lane.
Warm regards,
As you embark on this spiritual journey with "Faith in the Fast Lane," I hope these philosophical explorations resonate with you and provide valuable insights into navigating faith in our fast-paced world.
If you find value in these articles, I would be incredibly grateful for your support. Consider becoming a paid subscriber to help sustain this newsletter, or simply share an article with a friend or family member who might benefit from these reflections.
Thank you for being a part of this community!

Just today, as I stole a few moments to be alone with Nature and our Creator, I thought to myself - "somewhere along life's busy lanes, I've lost my spiritual pathway."
I had made so much progress at one point in my life, but then I just lost my way with all the challenges life threw at me.
I thought to myself, "I need to read something spiritual, something beautiful and inspiring, to help me find my way back." And then I read your first post. 🙏😌
We are with you, Shashue.
